Apple Pie Filling

Apple Pie Filling Thumbnail

Almost everyone loves Apple Pie. But, not the time it takes to bake it.

This method reduces the oven baking time greatly, and can be made ahead of time.

Apple Pie Filing can be a great addition to a bowl of ice cream, a bowl of oatmeal, as a donut filling, between layers of cake, topping for cheesecake, ect.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 - 7 cups Apples, Sliced or Chopped
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg, ground, (if fresh use less)
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger, ground (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix dry ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Rinse & Peel the apples.
  3. OPTIONAL: place them in lemon water (if you won't be getting to them soon)
  4. Using a Melon Baller, scoop out top & bottom of apples. Slice apples in half and remove core.
  5. Slice or dice apples to desired shape.
  6. Place apples into Sauce Pan. Sprinkle dry ingredient mixture over apples.
  7. Stir until piece of apple is coated with mixture.
  8. Cook on low to medium heat for 10 - 20 minutes, stirring every 3 - 5 minutes. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the apples and how tender you want the apples.

Notes

  • Sliced Apples cook faster than diced apples. Since Diced Apples are thicker, it will take about 20 minutes for them to become tender.
  • If you are making this filling for an apple pie, leave the apples a little firm. They will finish while baking in the pie.
